A step sequencer that works the way the machines it descends from did — you tap in a pattern, you hear it immediately, and every voice has its own tune, decay and filter sitting right there on the panel. No browser, no page flipping, no menu diving. One window, and the grid is the instrument.
Every step cycles on, accent, off — one click each way. That is the whole interaction, and it is the reason the old machines were fast: dynamics live in the grid rather than in a velocity lane you have to open. Sixteen instrument rows run across the pattern, the playhead moves through them, and you edit while it plays.
Each pattern holds its own bar length. Copy, paste and clear are on the panel, so building a song section out of variations takes seconds rather than a trip through a menu.
A global groove control shifts the feel of the whole pattern without moving a single step, so you can audition a tighter or looser take instantly.
The accent amount is set once for the kit and applied wherever you place an accent step. Raise it and the whole pattern gains attitude in one gesture.
Sixteenth and eighth-note swing with the delay curve the classic hardware sequencers used, so the shuffle lands where a producer expects it to land.
Tune and fine tuning, volume, pan, attack and decay, a filter cutoff with resonance, and its own MIDI note. Select a drum and the panel follows it — there is no separate editor window.
Each of the sixteen slots takes your own sample, and the synthesis controls apply to it. Tune a loop, shorten a snare, filter a hat you recorded yourself.
Reverse plays the slot backwards, which turns a cymbal into a swell and a snare into a suck-in. Mute and solo are where you expect them, for auditioning a groove in pieces.

DreamLab Drum Machine is currently a public beta at 0.2.0 — the licence is perpetual and the instrument is complete, but the version number is pre-1.0 and behaviour may still change. It is not sold on its own until 1.0; during the beta it is included with Vallaren FX. It is an original Dreamlab Digital Media product, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or derived from any hardware or software manufacturer, and it does not model or emulate any specific third-party drum machine. Full licence terms at dreamlabnet.com/daw2/eula.html.
